Changes in the processing, storage and transfer of personal data: how to avoid fines and criminal liability?

Legal Digest News
We present an expert review of the legislation and effective support of the system for processing, storing and transferring personal data.

In November, legislation in this area tightened: on November 30, a law was signed to increase fines for personal data leaks, and on December 11, Article 272.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation entered into force, establishing criminal liability for crimes in the field of using computer information about personal data.

For example, illegal use, transfer and storage of computer information containing personal data obtained through unauthorized access to its processing facilities may be punishable by imprisonment for up to 4 years (Article 272.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

In addition, the law on amendments to the Administrative Code provides for fines for leaks of personal data up to 500 million rubles.
