The Government of the Russian Federation cancels the procedure for issuing sick leaves to employees over 65 years of age during the spread of coronavirus infection.
In April 2020, temporary rules for issuing disability leaves to employees over 65 years of age were approved. According to these rules, the specified category of employees, while observing the self-isolation regime during the spread of coronavirus infection, could receive an electronic sick leave. The exception was those employees who:
To obtain such a sick leave, the employee had to inform the employer of an intention to issue it. And the employer was required to form a list of employees who are entitled to obtain electronic sick leave, and submit a register of information for the fixing and payment of allowances on the sick leave to the bodies of the Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation. The right to allowance does not depend on where the employee was during the quarantine period: at the place of residence or stay, in an apartment, dwelling house or garden cottage.
Starting from April 1, 2021, this procedure becomes invalid, and it will not be necessary to issue “quarantine” sick leaves. This is owing to the fact that from the specified date, the transfer of employees over 65 years of age to remote working mode will be advisory, and not mandatory in nature. Employers will have to independently assess the epidemiological situation in their region and transfer employees to remote working mode as a priority.
